Next, we performed our dynamic and static stretches focusing on stretching our quadriceps muscles. Then, we performed close grip pushups for our muscular endurance exercise and planks for our abdominal strength exercise. Students continued round robin game play today and the games were very competitive. Students please remember that our unit post test for Basketball will be tomorrow. We practiced the skill of shooting today using the B.E.E.F. concept for students to follow. After we introduced shooting, students practiced layups, and played a couple of games of knockout, and then we continued our 3 on 3 practice games. Students did a great job today. Greetings PHS family. I hope that everyone had a great weekend and is well rested for the new week! Today in PE we started our Fitness gram post test. Each student is required to take the Fitness gram pre and post test. The fitness gram test evaluates each students cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, muscular endurance and strength and BMI. On Wednesday we will finish up the Fitness gram post test and begin our Team Handball unit.

Next, we performed super planks and figure four's for our muscular endurance and abdominal strength exercises. Students were assigned Floor Hockey teams today and we started game play. Students did a great job today applying the skills that they learned at the beggining of the unit to actual game play. We ended our day with our static stretching routine. Next, we performed close grip pushups and toe touches for our muscular endurance and abdominal strength exercises. We began our Floor Hockey skills practice with dribbling in a straight line, as well as dribbling while changing directions, and we played a few three on three dribbling activities. It is important that the students master the correct dribbling technique in order to be successful during the Floor Hockey unit. We ended our day with our static stretching cool down routine. Greetings PHS family, today in PE we started our Floor Hockey unit! We began our day with the Floor Hockey pre-test, followed by Floor Hockey notes. Notes are essential to students overall knowledge of the game as well as improvement. I want to make sure that each student has the opportunity to learn the history of the sport, fundamental skills, official rules of the game, and putting those skills, rules, and history of game to the test during game play and while taking the post-test. Lastly, students wrote their three goals for the unit in their journals. Tomorrow we will begin focusing on Standard 1 and building fundamental skills. Let's have a great day tomorrow.

Greetings PHS family, today in PE we continued our Flag Football tournament games. We started our day with our dynamic and static stretching routine. Focusing on stretching our hamstrings and groin muscles. We also performed our pushups and planks to improve our muscular endurance and abdominal strength. Next, we played Flag Football games on the football field. Each class is noticeably getting better. We ended our day with our static stretching routine. Let's have another great day tomorrow.

Followed by our pushups and bicycle crunches for our muscular endurance and abdominal strength exercises. Students are really progressing with the flag football unit nicely. Students have been able to use the skills that they have learned throughout the unit and have incorporated them into game play. Tomorrow we will continue our Flag Football game play, let's have another great day.

Next, we performed close grip pushups and toe touches in order to strengthen our upper body and abdominal muscles. We started our Flag Football round robin game play today. We performed "super planks" and planks to strengthen our upper body and abdominal muscles. During Flag Football skills practice, we focused on accuracy throwing stationary and while moving, and we also began our wide receiver route running. Followed by Flag Football notes so that every student understands the origin, official rules, and skills needed to be successful during the unit. Then we performed wide grip pushups focusing on isolating the pectorial (chest) muscles. During our work session, we continued our softball games on the baseball fields. The games have really become competitive, every student has improved their knowledge and skill set during the unit and it shows! We ended our day with our static stretching routine. We proceeded to our muscular endurance exercises focusing on keeping proper form while performing a "Super Plank" and building core strength and endurance when performing the toe touch abdominal exercise. We then completed our 1 mile run/walk in 10 minutes, each class improved on their mile times this week. We then walked to the baseball field and continued our softball round robin game play. Then we began our muscular endurance and abdominal exercises focusing on wide grip pushups and lower abdominal strength. During game play, students were able to apply all of the skills they learned at the beginning of the unit to our first game today. We ended our day with our cool down static stretches. During our muscular endurance and abdominal strength exercises we focused on wide grip pushups and sit and reach core exercises. During our work session today we mainly focused on situational fielding plays. We want each student to be able to understand exactly what he/she is expected to know and apply during game play. During our muscular endurance and abdominal strength exercises we focused on close grip pushups and jackknife core exercises. During our softball/whiffleball practice we focused on batting practice and fielding. We ended our day with some static stretches. Looking forward to another great day Tomorrow in PE.

This Week in PE! (8/25-8/29)

Greetings PHS Family,

This week in PE we finished up our volleyball unit. On Monday (8/25), we began our food/liquid logs. Students received a log template in which they wrote all of the food and liquids that they have eaten over the past week. This log is a part of our fitness and health model. We want all of our students to be conscious of what they eat and drink during the day. On Tuesday (8/26), we continued our volleyball unit with round robin games for 1st and 2nd block. Wednesday (8/27), we continued our volleyball unit with elimination games for 1st an 2nd block. Thursday (8/28), was our last day of volleyball, we played our last tournament game for the unit. On Friday (8/29), we took our volleyball post test. Grades will be posted by 9/5/14.

This Week in PE! (8/11-8/15)


Greetings PHS family,

This week in PE we will begin our Volleyball unit. Students will also begin to dress out during this first week of our volleyball unit. Students will take a volleyball pre-test as well as the General PE common assessment on Thursday (8/14). Students will learn the origin of volleyball, official rules, and the court dimensions of the sport. We will also work on skill development during the week, so that students are able to translate all of their general knowledge and skill development that they have accumulated throughout the unit into game play. I am eager to get started. Students please make sure you dress out every day and remember to bring your interactive journals to class on Monday. Let’s have a great week!
